Remote Benefits:

🇩🇪 Germany

Availability of benefits in Germany

Benefits are no longer available for selection by new clients. However, clients who already offer them can continue providing them to their employees, including new employees hired by those clients.

The statutory company pension scheme (bAV) remains available to all employees regardless of client selection.

Remote Company Pension (bAV)

In Germany, employees have a legal right to pay part of their gross salary into a company pension scheme (betriebliche Altersversorgung - bAV), also known as deferred compensation.

As the employer of record, Remote must offer this option upon employee request.

Starting May 1, 2025, a Benefits Service Fee of $15 USD per enrolled employee per month applies (a single fee applies regardless of the number of benefits you offered). Find out more.

How the pension works

  • Remote provides the company pension via Dyno, our pension broker.
  • When enrolling, employees can choose from multiple pension providers available through Dyno.
  • Enrollment is employee-initiated and must be requested by the employee.

Employer contributions

  • By law, employers must contribute at least 15% of the employee’s monthly pension contribution.
  • For 2026, this mandatory employer contribution is capped at €50 per month (15% of the maximum €338 employee deferred compensation).

Remote's Benefits Practices

Our core benefits (which often include things like healthcare) are required in some countries where we hire. We do not require customers to offer benefits in Germany due to its strong public system and local laws that protect us (and you!) against claims of non-discriminatory hiring practices.

Understanding Hiring in Germany
  1. In Germany, only 10%* of employers offer supplemental health insurance to their workforce. This is due to the robust public health system in the country. While supplemental health insurance is not the norm today, it provides employees with access to a wider range of options for providers and specialists, as well as shorter wait times. Our plans also offer global coverage (excluding the US) to protect your employees when they are traveling outside their home country. (*based on 3rd-party market research from our partners)
  2. Employers can choose to opt out of offering Remote’s core benefits in Germany.
  3. You will be able to select a benefits plan when onboarding your employee (if you choose to offer one). From there, the employee will be enrolled and contacted with more information about their plan. Remote takes care of all the administration work so you can focus on scaling your global team!
