Key Considerations for Health Insurance

In Argentina, the healthcare system is funded through mandatory social contributions made by both employees and employers. Employees are required to contribute 3% of their gross monthly salary toward the healthcare system, this amount is capped based on a maximum monthly earnings limit set by regulations. Employers, on the other hand, contribute 6% of the employee’s gross salary, and unlike the employee portion, the employer's contribution is not subject to any cap.
These combined contributions, amounting to a total of 9%, are directed to the employee’s chosen healthcare provider. Employees typically select an "Obra Social," which is a social security-affiliated healthcare fund, or they may opt for a private health insurance plan, known locally as a "prepaga." The funds collected from these contributions are pooled into a shared healthcare fund.

Employer paid dependents coverage is a standard feature accross all our health plans. This enhancement is designed to streamline the benefits process and maximize the value of your health coverage, ensuring comprehensive support for your team and their families.


The final cost of the plan will depend on whether total plan cost surpass the contributions collected in Remote’s shared pool. If there is an excess, it will be evenly distributed among all customers within the same tier, promoting fairness and transparency in cost-sharing

Remote's health insurance offering includes three tiers—Basic, Standard, and Premium—designed to meet diverse needs and budgets within your organization. You can select the appropriate tier, allowing team members to then choose their preferred healthcare provider from the available options within that tier.

You will be responsible for paying the total cost of the health benefit, including any expenses for adding dependents. However, once a plan tier is selected for any team member, it must be offered to all.

Monthly Pricing increases range from 2% to 5%, driven by economic factors such as inflation and regulatory changes.

Customers may elect to offer the mental health program benefits to their teams and can choose among 5 different plans. If one of the mental health benefit is offered, the employee will automatically be enrolled and you will be charged for it monthly. However, employees have the option to opt out of the benefit. If they choose to do so, they will be unenrolled and charges will stop effective from the next month.

It is essential to be aware that in certain countries, Mental Health benefits may be categorized as 'Benefits in Kind' (BIK). This categorization means that the monthly premiums, which the company pays for the benefit, might be counted as part of the employee's taxable income according to the local tax laws.

  • Emergency Medical Support with access to emergency medical care and evacuation services in case of illness or injury while traveling.
  • Baggage and Business Equipment Coverage that protects personal belongings and essential business equipment during travel
  • Travel Delay and Trip Cancellation for unexpected travel delays or cancellations
  • Personal Liability and Accidental Death with coverage up $100,000 per trip across all plans.
  • Access to a 24/7 helpline, providing immediate assistance for travel emergencies, medical support, and more, no matter where employees are in the world.

Customers can offer Global Business Travel Insurance to selected employees, choosing from five levels of coverage. This insurance can be provided on an individual basis, without needing to offer it to the entire team. However, the chosen plan must be consistent for all eligible employees within the same country. Employees also have the option to opt-out, and if they do, their coverage and charges will end in the following billing cycle.

Remote has partnered with ThanksBEN to provide a flexible Wellness & Lifestyle Benefit for your team


ThanksBEN’s platform is available on desktop and mobile and allows employees to access a wide variety of wellness and lifestyle services, including:

  • Physical and mental health support such as gym memberships, fitness classes, therapy, mindfulness apps, and guided meditation.
  • Lifestyle services like streaming subscriptions (Spotify, Netflix), groceries, and other services that support work-life balance and personal well-being.
  • Personalized recommendations to help employees select benefits most relevant to their needs.
  • Platform support for employees needing immediate assistance or guidance on wellness-related concerns.

Clients can choose to offer the Wellness & Lifestyle Benefit and select from multiple contribution levels. Once a plan is selected, employees are automatically enrolled, and the company will be charged monthly. Employees have the option to opt out at any time, in which case enrollment will be terminated and charges will stop effective from the following month.

It is important to note that in certain countries, wellness benefits may be considered a Benefit in Kind (BIK). This means the monthly contributions paid by the company could be treated as taxable income for the employee under local tax laws.

Pricing and benefits are subject to change based on business and market conditions. Any updates will be communicated to clients as they occur.

  • Currency: All contributions are listed in USD. Local currency equivalents will be calculated automatically at the time of use.
  • Service Fee: The Benefits Service Fee of $15 per enrolled employee per month applies (a single fee regardless of the number of benefits offered).


Start and End Date of the Wellness & Lifestyle Benefit

  • Start date: Employees will be enrolled in the Wellness & Lifestyle Benefit from the 1st day of the month following their employment start date.
    Example: If an employee starts on July 15, their benefit will begin on August 1. The benefit card will be topped up between the 5th and 7th of that month.
  • End date: The Wellness & Lifestyle Benefit for your employees will remain active until the end of their termination month. Benefits are not pro-rated in the final month.
    Example: If an employee’s termination date is August 20, their wallet will remain active until August 31. Any unused balance after August 31 will no longer be accessible

Understanding Hiring in Argentina

Employment in Argentina is governed by the Constitution, the Labor Contract Law, and international conventions. Employers must carefully comply with these frameworks when hiring, managing benefits, and handling terminations.

Employment contracts are usually indefinite unless specified otherwise. Written contracts may be used for probation, fixed-term arrangements (up to five years), or seasonal/temporary roles.

Labor compliance requires employers to ensure equal treatment without discrimination, limit working hours to 8 per day / 48 per week, pay at least the statutory minimum wage (ARS 87,987/month as of June 2023), provide safe working conditions, and pay the Aguinaldo (13th-month salary).

Payroll and taxes include employer social contributions of around 24–26.4% of gross income, covering pensions, healthcare, and social services. Employers must also withhold income tax for employees, which ranges from 5% to 35%.

Employee benefits are extensive.

  • Leave entitlements: 90 days of paid maternity leave (plus optional unpaid leave), two days of paid paternity leave, sick leave (up to 12 months depending on tenure), 15 paid public holidays, and 14–35 vacation days depending on seniority.
  • Healthcare: Argentina has universal public healthcare, but employers often offer private insurance as a competitive benefit.
  • Pensions: Employers and employees contribute 18% and 11% respectively into the pension system, with private pension schemes sometimes offered as a loyalty incentive.

Termination and severance rules require written notice (15 days to two months). Dismissals without cause require severance payments, calculated according to tenure and dismissal terms.
