In 2013, while many believed that universal internet access was imminent, and the digital learning revolution would soon benefit everyone globally, we made a bold decision and chose to focus on the educational needs of those who didn’t have reliable connectivity. Fast forward to 2025, and a third of the world’s population remains offline, 272 million children and youth are out of school, and many more still lack consistent access to quality digital learning.

Founded by a group of PhD students with a vision of ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to learn and flourish, over the last 13 years Learning Equality has grown from bringing Khan Academy exercises and videos offline to becoming a key player in the education technology landscape. Thanks to our work, over 13 million learners in underserved communities across every country in the world now have access to transformative digital tools—no connectivity required.

We develop and support offline-first, needs-driven edtech that builds agency for learners, teachers and organizations. Our tools are co-designed with the communities we serve to ensure they meet their unique needs. But we recognize that technology alone isn’t a silver bullet, so we also focus on supporting organizations through our direct assistance or our DIY model with what they need to foster quality, student-centered learning in underserved contexts. And we know this proven approach improves learning.

McGovern Foundation, Endless Network, and Swarovski Foundation to name a few, we are continuing to grow our reach, deepen our impact and ensure many more under-resourced communities around the world can access and actively foster quality learning opportunities.

We are seeking a Financial Operations Manager to handle day-to-day financial operations, and oversee efficient financial processes and controls. This is a part-time, 25 -30 hours a week, opportunity for someone who identifies strongly with Learning Equality’s mission to support access to quality education for under-resourced communities around the world. This is a remote position based in the United States, and is planned as a senior individual contributor role, with end-to-end ownership of financial operations.

You will oversee and execute critical financial functions, from maintaining accurate financial records, processing and tracking payments, to monitoring and projecting cash flow, and supporting strategic planning. You will focus primarily on maintaining strong, repeatable financial operations, with opportunities to thoughtfully improve and streamline processes over time, rather than building systems from scratch.

This role is designed as a part-time position, but we are open to expanding the scope to a full-time role for the right person with the experience to step into additional projects. What does Finance at Learning Equality look like?

This role will fully manage Learning Equality’s financial operations and works closely with colleagues across the team. In a normal week, you might:

Discuss financial reporting needs for an upcoming partner report with a Co-Executive Director, and execute on the determined next steps.
Brainstorm the simplest way to handle advance payments to an implementing partner with the Director of Global Implementations.
Co-hack on internal processes that sit at the intersection of Finance and HR with the Head of People.
Run payroll for employees, and process invoices from independent contractors and suppliers.
Prepare financial reports for an upcoming meeting with the Board of Directors’ Finance Committee.
Reconcile the monthly accounts, generate reports, and communicate these with the Co-Executive Directors.
Create a financial report or budget for a funder.

This position might be for you if you have…

Fluency with accrual based accounting and GAAP. You are able to apply these principles in day-to-day financial operations with ease.
Spreadsheet wizardry. You are more than comfortable in a spreadsheet, and love to create clean, easily maintained sheets that can help to answer questions.
Experience managing organizational books and enforcing internal financial policies. You are able to maintain financial controls, ensure compliance, and support audits.
A minimum of three years experience managing financial processes at an organization. You have experienced the responsibility of budgeting, reporting and operational finance workflows.

Financial planning, scenario modeling, and multi-year financial forecasting to support strategic planning and organizational growth.
Earned revenue modeling and revenue visibility, including analysis of pricing, sustainability, and cash flow timing.
Equitable compensation philosophy and modeling, translating values into practical, financially sustainable compensation structures.

Compensation & Benefits

Our core values guide our compensation and benefits package, just like they guide the rest of our work. We offer the following pay and benefits to US-based employees. Below are the benefits provided to a US-based PT employee, assuming a schedule of working 30 hours a week.

Salary

In an effort to avoid biases and address historical pay inequities, we use a consistent formula to set our team pay rates. Compensation is calculated through three factors: a person's role, level of experience, and their work-from-home location. We believe in being transparent about compensation: We will calculate candidate-specific rates based on cost of living at applicant locations, and will share during introductory conversations. The salary range will be between $70k - for a 30 hours a week position based in Houston, TX - and $107k, for a full-time position based in New York City or Los Angeles. The exact salary depends on whether this is a part-time or full-time role, and on the cost-of-living of work-from-home locations.

Health

At 30 hours a week, you are eligible to join Learning Equality’s medical, vision, and dental coverage, as well as to set up an FSA or dependent care FSA. Learning Equality covers 100% of full-time employees and dependents’ healthcare and will cover 75% of premiums for a part-time employee working 30 hours per week.
We offer a monthly wellness stipend to support all aspects of your wellbeing - you can put it towards purchases like a gym subscription, a mindfulness app, or yoga classes.

Finances

Learning Equality offers a 401(k) plan and will contribute 2.25% for a 30 hours a week employee, to help you plan for your future. Learning Equality’s contribution increases the longer you work here, up to 7%.

Scheduling

We support flexible working schedules. We ask all teammates to make sure to overlap part of their working hours with continental US time zones, for ease of collaboration and availability for external calls.
We provide 1 week of paid sick time off, 5 weeks paid vacation, and 16 paid holidays, adjusted to ¾ of the time for this part-time position. We offer paid parental leave for parents of any gender, whether you’re a biological, adoptive, or foster parent.

Remote Work

We are a distributed team and collaborate online through Slack and video meetings, and other online communication tools. We provide up to $1000 when you start to help with your initial work from home setup, and we pay for your home internet.

Growth

We’re a team of life-long learners and we want you to have the workspace setup that is best for you. We budget $1,800 a year for 30 hours a week employees for a Constant Improvement Fund.
