Remote API integration overview
Please be advised: if you believe we are a suitable partner, review the prerequisites and steps below to integrate with Remote.
Pre-build steps
Define your objectives
Decide what you want to achieve with the API. For ideas, consult our use cases and examples. To review the complete list of endpoints and data fields exposed by the API, refer to our API reference documents.
Assign internal resources
For a successful integration, you will need a Remote account and a software developer to write the code.
Provide admin access to your developer
Your software developer will need admin access to your Remote account so they can generate an API token. To give your software developer admin access in Remote click here.
Development steps
Confirm you can access the sandbox
You must use our test environment to trial the API and validate results before altering your production company. To access the sandbox, log in to your Remote account and navigate to Integrations > Remote API > Access API. Note, you must have the company admin role in Remote to access this page.
Set up a test company
When using the sandbox, create a company to use for testing. To create a company, click Sign Up and complete the sign up flow. You will not be charged for any test employments you create for this company.
Obtain an API access token
An API token authenticates a user and permits requests to the Remote API to access company data. You can generate an API token by visiting Account Preferences> API management in your test environment and following the instructions here. Please note, this token will only work for API requests made to the sandbox environment.
Run a test request
With an access token in hand, execute some requests against the sandbox following the example here. Log in to your test company and verify that your test request returned the expected result.
Build and test your integration
Use our API developer resources and API reference documentation to develop and validate your integration with Remote. For technical support during the build phase, please contact our team at [email protected].
Deploy your integration to production
Once you are satisfied your API requests behave as expected, generate a production token and update the request paths so they point to your production company. Further guidance on these steps can be found here.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. We regularly monitor, test, and refine the API.
No. There are no fees to use our Remote API at this time.
No. The Remote API is an option for tech‑forward customers who wish to create custom workflows, automations, and similar solutions. We recommend customers review our integration requirements, endpoints, and use cases carefully before deciding to build an integration with Remote.
The possibilities are wide‑ranging – below are some examples of what you can achieve:
Sync employee details to your preferred HRIS – Obtain a single view of your entire team’s data, irrespective of location, so you can produce insightful reports.
Consolidate your compensation data and reporting – Pull the latest employee compensation information from Remote into your company reports for deeper insights.
Automate employee onboarding – Reduce delays and save time by adding new hires to the Remote platform with a single click.
This is only a starting point for what can be achieved with the Remote API. Review the use cases for more inspiration on where to begin.
Yes. We developed the Remote API to be as flexible as possible to your needs.
Yes. A sandbox environment is available for experimenting with the API and validating results before making changes to your production company.
To access the sandbox environment:
Log in to your Remote account.
Navigate to Integrations > Remote API > Access API. Here you will find a link to the sandbox environment.
Please note, you need to have the “company admin” role in Remote to access this page.
Once in the sandbox environment, create a company to use for testing. To create a company, click Sign Up and complete the sign up flow. You will not be charged for any test employments you create for this company.
Finally, generate an API token. An API token authenticates the user and permits requests to the Remote API to access company data. You can generate an API token by visiting Account Preferences> API management in your test environment. Please note, this token will only work for API requests made to the sandbox environment.
Each company admin user can have one token at a time. The token does not expire. If you no longer need the token, you can revoke it.
The Remote API limits the number of authenticated requests to 20 requests per minute. We are continually expanding the API with new endpoints so customers can meet their automation objectives. For instance, endpoints to access time off and expense data via the API are coming soon. If you require an endpoint we do not yet offer, please request it
