Remote API integration overview
If you believe we are a good fit, review the steps and requirements below to integrate with Remote.
Pre-build checklist
Define your objectives
Decide what you wish to achieve with the API. For ideas, consult our use cases and examples. To view the complete list of endpoints and available data fields offered by the API, consult our API reference documents.
Assign internal resources
To integrate successfully, you require a Remote account and a software developer to write the code.
Grant admin access to your developer
Your software developer will require admin rights on your Remote account to create an API token. To grant your software developer admin access in Remote click here.
Development checklist
Confirm access to the sandbox
You will need to use our test environment to experiment with the API and verify results before modifying your production company. To reach the sandbox, sign in to your Remote account and go to Integrations > Remote API > Access API. Please note that you must hold the company admin role in Remote to view this page.
Set up a test company
After entering the sandbox, set up a company for testing. To do so, click Sign Up and complete the sign-up flow. Don’t worry — you will not be charged for any test employments created for this company.
Obtain an API access token
An API token authenticates a user and permits requests to the Remote API for company data. In the test environment, generate an API token by going to Account Preferences> API management and following the instructions here. Please note that this token will work only for API requests against the sandbox environment.
Execute a test request
With an access token, try submitting requests to the sandbox environment using the example here. Sign in to your test company and verify the test request succeeded.
Develop and test your integration
Use our API developer resources and API reference documentation to implement and validate your integration with Remote. For technical assistance during development, contact our team at [email protected].
Deploy the integration to production
When you are confident your API requests behave as expected, generate a production token and update the request path to target your production company. More information about these steps is available here.

No. There are currently no fees to use the Remote API.
No. The Remote API is an optional benefit for tech-first customers who wish to create bespoke workflows, automations, and more. We encourage customers to review our integration requirements, endpoints, and use cases thoroughly before deciding whether to build an integration with Remote.
The possibilities are wide-ranging – below are some examples of achievable use cases:
Sync employee details to your preferred HRIS – Maintain a single view of your team’s data across locations to produce insightful reports.
Consolidate compensation data and reporting – Import current employee compensation from Remote into company reports for richer insights.
Automate employee onboarding – Reduce manual work and avoid delays by adding new hires to the Remote platform with a single click.
This is just a sample of what the Remote API can deliver. Review the use cases for further ideas and inspiration to begin.
Yes. The Remote API was developed to be flexible and accommodate your requirements.
Yes. A sandbox environment is provided to experiment with the API and validate results before altering your production company.
To access the sandbox environment:
Log in to your Remote account.
Go to Integrations > Remote API > Access API, where you will find a link to the sandbox environment.
Please note that you must have the “company admin” role in Remote to access this page.
After entering the sandbox, create a company for testing. To create a company, click Sign Up and complete the sign-up flow. Don’t worry — you will not be charged for any test employments created for this company.
Finally, generate an API token. An API token authenticates a user and authorises requests to the Remote API for company data. In the test environment, go to Account Preferences> API management to generate a token. Please note that this token will function only for API requests to the sandbox environment.
Each company admin may hold one token at any time. Tokens do not expire. If a token is no longer required, you can revoke it.
The Remote API restricts authenticated traffic to 20 requests per minute. We are continually adding new endpoints so customers can meet their automation objectives. For example, endpoints for time off and expense data are coming soon. If you require an endpoint that is not yet available, please request it
