In a co-employment arrangement, employer responsibilities are shared between you and Remote. Remote can operate U.S. payroll, submit tax filings, administer benefits and manage workers' compensation. You retain authority over hiring and termination, daily management and HR strategy. Your employees remain on your entity's payroll records.
Remote PEO is $99 per employee per month. That is the administration fee. Healthcare premiums, workers' compensation, and state unemployment costs are billed separately at cost rather than bundled in, so you can see what you’re paying for each.
All 50 states, excluding U.S. territories. This includes the monopolistic workers' compensation jurisdictions—Ohio, North Dakota, Washington and Wyoming—where Remote supports registration. Check state employment requirements before hiring.
A PEO is a shared structure, meaning you relinquish some direct control over payroll and benefits administration. Exiting a PEO requires additional work — notice periods, reclaiming your state accounts, maintaining COBRA continuity and resolving 401(k) arrangements. PEOs are best suited to companies that already have a U.S. entity and clear headcount growth; if you do not yet have a U.S. entity, an employer of record is a better fit.
No. Benefits run through the PEO's pooled plans, which is what gives a smaller team access to plan options and pricing it could not get on its own. Remote handles benefits administration from there, across enrolment, changes and renewals. The trade-off is that your existing broker relationship ends when you join.
