Remote Talent community guidelines
Our pledge to job seekers
The rise in demand for remote roles has left job seekers vulnerable to scams, since anonymity and distance can be used to exploit hopeful applicants. Remote Talent was created to guide candidates toward legitimate remote work opportunities, distinguishing itself from the widespread spam that pervades the market.
As acknowledged leaders in remote work, we maintain exceptionally high standards for every company and role listed on our platform.
To lower these standards would not only let down our candidates but would also contradict our core mission to be the most candidate-forward platform globally. Therefore, notwithstanding differing local regulations, we require all postings on Remote Talent to follow our guidelines. Listings that fail to comply will be removed, and repeat breaches may result in an account ban.
Below, we set out the requirements for listings and the behaviour expected of employers on our platform:
"Candidates are entitled to know exactly what they are applying for through truthful and accurate job descriptions."
1. Use a legitimate title for the role
All roles must include a "legitimate title". We define a "legitimate title" as one that indicates the position's hierarchy, role, department and/or specialisation.
Acceptable examples include, but are not limited to, Senior Graphic Designer or Head of Digital Marketing. Titles that violate this requirement include Unique Opportunity, Work from Home or Manager
2. Include a company website
Job listings and company profiles must link to a company website where candidates can obtain a reasonable level of information about the organisation, including its industry, business objectives and location.
Examples of violations include linking to anything other than a publicly accessible webpage — such as a WhatsApp group, a personal email address, or a phone number. Other breaches include linking to invalid sites that return a 404 or similar error, or linking to pages that do not provide a reasonable amount of company information.
3. Provide contact information
Job posts and company profiles must include a method to contact the team, for example the hiring manager's business email address.
Employers must use Remote Talent for its intended purpose and its intended purpose alone (connect talent to opportunities)
4. Provide a straightforward and legitimate method to apply
Job posts and company profiles must include a valid, up-to-date application link or mail:to address for candidates who wish to apply.
“How to Apply” should be clear and completable within a reasonable timeframe.
Violations include apply links that return 200 or 404 errors, or redirects to websites that do not contain an application form or instructions.
5. Adhere to Remote Talent compliance standards
Remote Jobs is a global job board. While hiring compliance varies by region, we enforce a high bar for compliance that companies must follow regardless of location.
Job postings must not discriminate on grounds of race, colour, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.
Roles must comply with EEO, ADA and ADEA guidelines that prohibit discrimination in employment.
Postings must also comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA).
6. Where feasible, advertise base pay
Some commission-only roles may be disallowed on our platform because they carry a higher risk of worker exploitation and increased potential for FLSA violations.
Additionally, roles that are entirely unpaid (such as unpaid internships) are prohibited.
Although advertising a salary range is not mandatory for posting a role, positions must be listed in good faith with an intended base compensation.
7. Do not request private personal data
Job listings and their associated applications must not include requests for information that could infringe an applicant's privacy rights. This includes bank information, home address, social security number, or medical history.
8. Unethical companies are prohibited
We reserve the right to remove jobs from companies that prioritise profit over legality or the welfare of customers, employees and the general public. Businesses operating in an unethical, deceptive, or illegal manner are prohibited.
For example, we do not allow MLMs, Predatory Lending, Phishing Operations, Data Harvesting, or Gambling Operations to post advertisements on our site.
Requiring an upfront investment or payment by the candidate is strictly prohibited.
Finally, companies must operate in good faith, respecting candidates time and means.
9. Do not impose unfairly restrictive requirements
Except for contract or freelance positions, your role should not require prior ownership of equipment necessary to perform the job (such as, but not limited to: laptop, phone). Other excessively specific criteria that could unfairly exclude qualified candidates may also lead to removal.
10. Comply with accessibility requirements
Candidates with disabilities must be able to access your post. This means following our formatting guidelines and posting an English version of your job description.
11. Use a respectful tone
We reserve the right to remove any roles that we consider disrespectful, derogatory or defamatory towards candidates. Violations may include job descriptions written in a condescending, sarcastic or callous tone.
Removal policy
If a role is reported for minor violations, our team will attempt to contact you to review and amend the listing
You will then have 24 hours to correct the issues before the role is removed
If the role remains unchanged after that period, the listing will be unpublished from our job board
Your subscription will remain active so you can edit and republish your role at your convenience
If a role is reported for major violations, it will be removed immediately
You will be notified of this action and your account may be suspended
In certain circumstances, we may issue a refund
*** It’s very important to note you will not be entitled to a refund
Fees and renewals
There will be no refunds or credits for partial months of job postings. Postings recur on a monthly basis and the user is required to update the auto-renewal on a monthly basis for each job post.
You understand and accept that you will not receive a refund of pre-paid fees, and to the extent that you have not paid the applicable fees, you will remain liable to pay the entire fees due for the job posting, as applicable, in the event that your job posting is in breach of our Policy.
