Remote talent community guidelines

Our pledge to job applicants

Growing demand for remote roles has left applicants vulnerable to scams, since anonymity and distance make it easier for bad actors to target hopeful candidates. Remote Talent was created to guide job seekers to legitimate remote opportunities, separating the platform from widespread spam.

As acknowledged leaders in remote work, we require exceptionally high standards for every company and role shown on our platform.

Lowering these standards would both shortchange candidates and undermine our mission to be the most candidate-focused platform globally. Consequently, regardless of local regulatory differences, all postings on Remote Talent must follow our guidelines. Non-compliant listings will be removed, and repeated breaches may lead to account suspension.

Below, we set out the requirements for listings and the expected conduct of employers on our platform:

"Candidates are entitled to understand the role they apply for through truthful and accurate job descriptions."

1. Use a legitimate title for the role

Every role must include a “legitimate title”, which we define as a title that indicates the position’s hierarchy, role, department, and/or specialisation.

Acceptable examples include Senior Graphic Designer or Head of Digital Marketing. Titles that violate this rule include Unique Opportunity, Work from Home, or Manager

2. Include a company website

Job adverts and company profiles must link to a public company website where candidates can find a reasonable level of information about the business, including industry, commercial objectives, and location.

Violations include linking to anything that is not a publicly accessible web page—such as a WhatsApp group, a personal email, or a phone number. Other breaches include linking to invalid sites that return a 404 or similar error, or to pages that lack a reasonable amount of company information.

3. Provide contact information

Job listings and company profiles must include a means to contact the team, such as the hiring manager’s business email address.

Employers must use Remote Talent only for its intended purpose (connect talent to opportunities)

4. Provide a simple and legitimate way to apply

Job adverts and company profiles must provide a valid, up-to-date application link or mail:to address for candidates wishing to apply.

“How to Apply” should be clear and completable within a reasonable timeframe.

Breaches include apply links that return 200 or 404 responses, or redirects to pages that do not contain an application form or instructions.

5. Meet Remote Talent compliance standards

Remote Jobs is a global job board. Although hiring compliance varies by region, we apply a high standard of compliance that companies must meet regardless of location.

Job listings must not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.

Roles must comply with EEO, ADA and ADEA guidelines that prohibit discrimination in employment.

Postings must also comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA).

6. Advertise base pay where possible

Roles paid on a commission-only basis may be disallowed on our platform because they present a higher risk of worker exploitation and potential FLSA violations.

Roles that are entirely unpaid (for example, unpaid internships) are also prohibited.

Although posting a salary range is not mandatory, roles must be listed in good faith with an intended base compensation.

7. Do not request private personal data

Job adverts and their application processes must not ask for information that could infringe an applicant’s privacy rights. This includes bank details, home address, social security number, or medical history.

8. Unethical companies are prohibited

We reserve the right to remove listings from organisations that prioritise profit over legality or the well‑being of customers, employees, and the general public. Businesses operating in an unethical, deceptive, or illegal manner are prohibited.

For example, we do not permit MLMs, predatory lending, phishing operations, data harvesting, or gambling operations to advertise on our site.

Requiring candidates to make an upfront investment or payment is strictly prohibited.

Finally, companies must act in good faith, respecting candidates’ time and resources.

9. No unfairly restrictive requirements

Except for contract or freelance positions, a role may not require prior ownership of essential equipment (such as, but not limited to: laptop, phone). Other overly specific criteria that could unfairly exclude qualified candidates may also result in removal.

10. Comply with accessibility requirements

Candidates with disabilities must be able to access your listing. This requires following our formatting guidelines and providing an English version of your job description.

11. Use a respectful tone

We reserve the right to remove any roles we judge to be disrespectful, derogatory, or defamatory towards candidates. Violations may include job descriptions that read as condescending, sarcastic, or callous.

Removal policy

  • If a role is reported for minor breaches, our team will attempt to contact you to review and amend the listing

  • At that time you will have 24 hours to correct the issue before the role is removed

  • If the role is not updated within that period, the listing will be unpublished from our job board

  • Your subscription will remain active so you can edit and republish the role at your convenience

  • If a role is reported for major breaches, it will be removed immediately

  • You will be notified of the action and your account may be suspended

  • In certain circumstances, we may issue a refund

  • *** It is important to note you will not be entitled to a refund

Fees and renewals

No refunds or credits will be provided for partial months of job postings. Listings recur monthly and the user must manage the auto-renewal for each job post on a monthly basis.

You accept that prepaid fees are non-refundable, and to the extent that any applicable fees remain unpaid, you will still be liable for the full fees due for the job posting if it breaches our policy.
