Remote Talent community guidelines
Our pledge to job seekers
Rising demand for remote roles has left job seekers vulnerable to scams, since the anonymity and distance involved can be used to take advantage of hopeful applicants. Remote Talent was created to help job seekers find legitimate remote opportunities, distinguishing itself from the common spam.
As recognised leaders in remote work, we hold all companies and roles on our platform to an exceptionally high standard.
Lowering these standards would let candidates down and would undermine our core mission to be the most candidate-forward platform globally. Therefore, regardless of differing local regulations, we require every listing on Remote Talent to meet our guidelines. Listings that fail to comply will be removed, and repeated breaches will lead to an account ban.
Below, we set out the requirements for listings and the expected conduct of employers on our platform:
"Candidates have a right to know what they’re applying for via truthful and accurate job descriptions."
1. Provide a legitimate title for the role
Every role must include a “legitimate title”. We define a “legitimate title” as one that indicates the position’s level, role, department and/or area of specialisation.
Acceptable titles include, but are not limited to, Senior Graphic Designer or Head of Digital Marketing. Examples of titles that violate this requirement include Unique Opportunity, Work from Home or Manager.
2. Add a company website
Job and company profiles must link to a company website where candidates can find a reasonable amount of information about the organisation, including its industry, business objectives and location.
Examples of violations include linking to anything other than a publicly accessible web page—such as a WhatsApp group, a personal email or a phone number. Other breaches include linking to invalid sites that return a 404 or similar error, or linking to pages that do not provide a reasonable amount of company information.
3. Offer contact information
Job and company profiles must include a way for candidates to contact the team, such as a hiring manager’s business email address.
Employers must use Remote Talent for its intended purpose and its intended purpose alone (connect talent to opportunities)
4. Provide an easy and legitimate way to apply
Job and company profiles must provide a valid, up-to-date application link or mail:to address for candidates who wish to apply.
“How to Apply” should be clear and completable within a reasonable time.
Examples of violations include application links that return 200 or 404 errors, or redirects to pages that do not include an application form or clear instructions.
5. Meet Remote Talent compliance standards
Remote Jobs is a global job board. While hiring compliance varies by region, we require companies to meet our high standards for compliance regardless of their location.
Job postings must not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity and sexual orientation), national origin, age, disability or genetic information.
Roles must meet EEO, ADA and ADEA guidelines that prohibit discrimination in employment.
Postings must also comply with The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA).
6. Advertise base pay where possible
Some commission-only roles may be prohibited on our platform because they carry a higher risk of worker exploitation and potential FLSA violations.
Completely unpaid positions, including unpaid internships, are also prohibited.
Although publishing a salary range isn’t mandatory, roles must be posted in good faith with a planned base compensation.
7. Do not request private personal data
Job adverts and associated application forms must not ask for information that could infringe an applicant’s privacy rights. This includes bank details, home address, social security number or medical history.
8. Unethical companies are prohibited
We reserve the right to remove jobs from companies that prioritise profit over legality or the wellbeing of customers, employees and the general public. Businesses operating in an unethical, deceptive or illegal manner are prohibited from posting.
For example, we prohibit MLMs, predatory lending, phishing operations, data harvesting and gambling operations from advertising on our site.
Requiring an upfront investment or payment by the candidate is strictly prohibited.
Finally, companies must operate in good faith, respecting candidates’ time and means.
9. No unfairly restrictive requirements
Except for contract or freelance positions, a role must not require candidates to already own equipment necessary to perform the job (for example: laptop, phone). Other overly specific criteria that could unfairly exclude qualified applicants may also result in removal.
10. Comply with accessibility requirements
Candidates with disabilities must be able to access your post. This requires following our formatting guidelines and providing an English version of your job description.
11. Use a respectful tone
We reserve the right to remove any roles we consider disrespectful, derogatory or defamatory towards candidates. Violations could include job descriptions written in a condescending, sarcastic or callous tone.
Removal policy
If your role is reported for minor breaches, our team will attempt to contact you to review and amend the listing
You will then have 24 hours to make corrections before the role is removed
If the listing remains unchanged after that period, it will be unpublished from our job board
Your subscription will remain active so you can edit and republish the role at your convenience
If a role is reported for major violations, it will be removed immediately
You will be notified of this action and your account may be suspended
In some circumstances, we may issue a refund
*** It’s very important to note you will not be entitled to a refund
Fees and renewals
We do not offer refunds or credits for partial months of job postings. Listings recur monthly and users are required to manage the auto-renewal for each job post on a monthly basis.
You acknowledge that pre-paid fees are non-refundable, and to the extent you have not paid the applicable fees, you will remain liable to pay the full fees due for the job posting if your listing breaches our policy.
