Remote talent community guidelines

Our commitment to jobseekers

The surge in demand for remote work has left job seekers vulnerable to scams, as anonymity and distance can make it easier for unscrupulous parties to exploit hopeful applicants. Remote Talent was founded to guide job seekers toward genuine remote opportunities, distinguishing itself from much of the spam.

As acknowledged leaders in remote work, we hold every company and role listed on our platform to an exceptionally high standard.

Lowering these standards would not only let candidates down but would also undermine our core aim of being the most candidate-focused platform worldwide. Consequently, regardless of differing local regulations, all postings on Remote Talent must meet our guidelines. Non-compliance will lead to removal of listings, and repeated violations may result in account suspension.

Below, we set out the requirements for listings and employer conduct on our platform:

"Candidates are entitled to clear, truthful and accurate job descriptions so they know exactly what they are applying for."

1. Give the role a legitimate title

All roles must include a “legitimate title”. We define a “legitimate title” as one that reflects the position’s hierarchy, role, department and/or specialisation.

Acceptable titles include, for example, Senior Graphic Designer or Head of Digital Marketing. Titles that breach this rule include Unique Opportunity, Work from Home or Manager.

2. Include a company website

Job adverts and company profiles must link to a company website where candidates can reasonably find information about the company, including industry, business objectives and location.

Examples of breaches include linking to anything other than a publicly accessible web page — for instance a WhatsApp group, a personal email address or a phone number. Other breaches include links to invalid pages that return a 404 or similar error, or links to sites that do not provide a reasonable amount of company information.

3. Provide contact information

Job listings and company profiles must include a way to contact the team, such as the business email address of a hiring manager.

Employers must use Remote Talent for its intended purpose and its intended purpose alone (connect talent to opportunities)

4. Offer a simple, legitimate application route

Job listings and company profiles must include a valid, up-to-date application link or mail:to address for candidates who wish to apply.

“How to Apply” should be clearly stated and achievable within a reasonable timeframe.

Breaches include application links that return 200 or 404 status codes, or redirects to websites that do not contain an application form or instructions.

5. Meet Remote Talent compliance standards

Remote Jobs is a global job board. Although hiring compliance varies by region, we set a high compliance threshold that companies must meet regardless of location.

Job postings must not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity and sexual orientation), national origin, age, disability or genetic information.

Roles must comply with EEO, ADA and ADEA guidelines that prohibit discrimination in employment.

Postings must also comply with The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA).

6. Advertise base pay where possible

Certain commission-only roles may be prohibited on our platform because they carry a higher risk of worker exploitation and potential FLSA violations.

Roles that are entirely unpaid, such as unpaid internships, are also prohibited.

Although advertising a salary range is not mandatory, roles must be posted in good faith with an intended base compensation.

7. Do not request private personal data

Job adverts and their application forms must not request information that could violate an applicant's privacy rights. This includes bank details, home address, social security number or medical history.

8. Companies that operate unethically are prohibited

We reserve the right to remove jobs from companies that prioritise profit over legality or the wellbeing of customers, employees and the general public. Businesses operating in an unethical, deceptive or illegal manner are not permitted.

For example, we do not permit MLMs, predatory lending, phishing operations, data-harvesting schemes or gambling operations to post advertisements on our site.

Requiring candidates to make an upfront investment or payment is strictly prohibited.

Finally, companies must operate in good faith, respecting candidates' time and means.

9. No unfairly restrictive requirements

Unless the position is contract or freelance, the role may not require candidates to already own the equipment necessary to perform the job (such as, but not limited to: laptop, phone). Other overly specific criteria that could unfairly exclude qualified candidates may also result in removal.

10. Comply with accessibility requirements

Candidates with disabilities must be able to access your post. This requires following our formatting guidelines and posting an English version of your job description.

11. Use a respectful tone

We reserve the right to remove any role we judge to be disrespectful, derogatory or defamatory towards candidates. Violations could include job descriptions that use condescending, sarcastic or callous language.

Removal policy

  • If your role is reported for minor violations, our team will attempt to contact you to review and edit your role.

  • At that stage you will have 24 hours to make corrections before the role is removed

  • If the listing is not updated by then, it will be unpublished from our job board

  • Your subscription will remain active so you can edit and republish the role at your convenience

  • If your role has been reported for major violations, it will be removed immediately

  • You will be notified of this action and your account may be suspended.

  • In certain circumstances, we may issue a refund.

  • *** It is very important to note you will not be entitled to a refund

Fees and renewals

No refunds or credits will be provided for partial months of job postings. Postings recur monthly and the user must update the auto-renewal for each job post on a monthly basis.

You acknowledge and accept that pre-paid fees are non-refundable, and to the extent you have not paid the applicable fees, you will remain liable to pay the full fees due for the job posting if it breaches our Policy.
