At Remote, we see every day just how powerful remote work can be to change lives — on both an individual and community level.
For those recovering from a natural disaster, remote work is about much more than freedom and flexibility. It is a force multiplier, enabling dignified employment that is independent of the person’s living circumstances. For those in need, remote work can be a meaningful opportunity to provide for their families, rebuild lives, and contribute to the communities where they live.
On February 6, 2023, two major earthquakes with magnitudes 7.8 and 7.5 struck southern Turkey, which were followed by a series of aftershocks. The quakes have had a devastating impact on the region, causing widespread loss of life; significant damage to infrastructure including roads, bridges, and buildings; and displacement of millions of people.
With a long and difficult road to recovery ahead, we believe that increasing access to remote job opportunities is an impactful way to provide support. That’s why Flatworld, Turkey-based Happy Work Studio, and Remote have launched a new initiative to connect remote job providers all over the world with remote job seekers recovering from the quakes.
Any company hiring remote workers can sign up for the Turkey Aid Project to receive a list of candidates for roles ranging from product manager, data scientist, lawyer, architect, UX / UI designer, and many more. Companies can also choose to receive additional candidates from Flatworld, an AI-powered global recruitment platform.
The initiative is completely free for both employers and workers. Employers based in any country can participate by hiring talent directly through their own entity in Turkey or through other means, like Remote’s global employment platform that enables you to hire anyone, anywhere.
This is truly a win-win opportunity: employers can fill their open positions with amazing remote talent while making a difference for individuals and their family rebuilding from a major disaster.
Not looking to hire but still want to make a difference? Even if you are not currently hiring, there are several other ways you can help today:
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies: The world’s largest humanitarian network, comprising 192 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies including the Turkish Red Crescent Society (TRCS).
Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders): A global humanitarian network that provides medical care, supplies and support to people in Turkey and more than 70 other countries.
Oxfam: A global organization that fights inequality and offers lifesaving support in times of crisis.
Turkey Mozaik Foundation: A registered charity in England and Wales that promotes and supports civil society organizations, and has established a fund to help earthquake survivors.
UNICEF: An organization working in more than 190 countries and territories to protect and support children.
Remote is honored to contribute to this cause and remains committed to bringing together great people and the companies that hire them. Thank you for your support!
