Remote Talent community guidelines

Our pledge to job seekers

Rising demand for remote work has left job seekers vulnerable to scams, since anonymity and distance can be used to take advantage of hopeful candidates.Remote Talent was established to guide job seekers towards authentic remote opportunities, distinguishing itself from widespread spam.

As acknowledged leaders in remote work, we maintain very high standards for every company and role listed on our platform.

Lowering these standards would not only let down our candidates but also undermine our core mission to be the most candidate-focused platform globally. Consequently, regardless of local regulatory differences, all postings on Remote Talent must comply with our guidelines. Non-compliance will result in listing removal, and repeated breaches may lead to account suspension.

Below are the requirements for listings and expected employer conduct on our platform:

"Candidates are entitled to know exactly what they are applying for through truthful and accurate job descriptions."

1. Include a legitimate title for the role

Each role must have a “legitimate title”. We define a “legitimate title” as one that conveys the position's hierarchy, function, department and/or specialisation.

Acceptable titles include, but are not limited to, Senior Graphic Designer or Head of Digital Marketing. Titles that breach this rule include Unique Opportunity, Work from Home, or Manager

2. Include a company website

Jobs and company profiles must include a public company website where job seekers can find adequate information about the business, such as industry, objectives and location.

Violations include linking to anything other than a publicly accessible webpage — for example a WhatsApp group, a personal email or a phone number. Also violations are linking to invalid sites that return a 404 or similar error, or linking to pages that lack sufficient company information.

3. Provide contact information

Jobs and company profiles must include a valid contact method, for example the hiring manager's business email address.

Employers must use Remote Talent for its intended purpose and its intended purpose alone (connect talent to opportunities)

4. Provide a clear and legitimate way to apply

Jobs and company profiles must include a valid, current application link or mail:to address for applicants.

“How to apply” should be clear and completable within a reasonable timeframe.

Violations include application links that return 200 or 404 errors, or links that redirect to sites with no application form or instructions.

5. Meet Remote Talent compliance standards

Remote Jobs is a global job board. Although hiring compliance varies by region, we enforce a high standard that companies must meet irrespective of their location.

Job postings must not discriminate on grounds of race, colour, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity and sexual orientation), national origin, age, disability or genetic information.

Roles must comply with EEO, ADA and ADEA guidelines that prohibit discrimination in employment.

Postings must also comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA).

6. Where possible, advertise base pay

Some roles paid on a commission-only basis may be disallowed on our platform because they carry a higher risk of worker exploitation and potential FLSA violations.

Roles that are entirely unpaid, including unpaid internships, are prohibited.

Although publishing a salary range is not mandatory, roles must be listed in good faith with an intended base compensation.

7. Do not request private personal data

Job postings and their application processes must not request information that infringes on an applicant's privacy. This includes bank details, home address, social security number or medical history.

8. Unethical companies are prohibited

We reserve the right to remove listings from companies that prioritise profit over legality or the welfare of customers, employees and the public. Businesses operating unethically, deceptively or illegally are prohibited.

For example, we do not permit MLMs, predatory lending, phishing operations, data harvesting or gambling operations to advertise on our site.

Requiring candidates to make an upfront payment or investment is strictly prohibited.

Finally, companies must operate in good faith, respecting candidates' time and means.

9. No unfairly restrictive requirements

Except for contract or freelance positions, a role must not demand that applicants already own essential equipment required to perform the job (for example: laptop, phone). Other excessively specific criteria that could unfairly exclude qualified candidates may also result in removal.

10. Comply with accessibility requirements

Candidates with disabilities must be able to access your post. This requires following our formatting guidelines and providing an English version of the job description.

11. Use a respectful tone

We reserve the right to remove any roles we judge to be disrespectful, derogatory or defamatory towards candidates. Examples of violations include job descriptions with condescending, sarcastic or callous language.

  • If your role is reported for minor breaches, our team will attempt to contact you to review and amend the listing
