Remote talent community guidelines
Our pledge to those seeking work
Rising demand for remote roles has left applicants vulnerable to scams, as anonymity and distance make it easier for bad actors to exploit hopeful candidates. Remote Talent was established to steer job seekers towards authentic remote opportunities, setting itself apart from prevalent spam.
As acknowledged leaders in remote work, we maintain exceptionally high standards for every company and role listed on our platform.
Lowering those standards would not only shortchange candidates but would also betray our core mission to be the most candidate-focused platform globally. Therefore, notwithstanding differing local regulations, all postings on Remote Talent must comply with these guidelines. Non-compliant listings will be removed, and repeated breaches may lead to account suspension.
Below are the requirements for listings and the expected conduct of employers on our platform:
"Candidates are entitled to clear and honest job descriptions so they understand what they are applying for."
1. Provide a legitimate job title
Every role must include a 'legitimate title'. We define this as a title that indicates the level, function, department and/or specialism of the position.
Acceptable examples include Senior Graphic Designer or Head of Digital Marketing. Titles that breach this policy include Unique Opportunity, Work from Home, or simply Manager.
2. Include a company website
Job adverts and company profiles must link to a company website where candidates can obtain a reasonable level of information about the business, such as its industry, objectives and location.
Breaches include linking to anything other than a publicly accessible web page — for example, a WhatsApp group, a personal email address, or a phone number. Other breaches include links to invalid websites that return a 404 or similar error, or links to sites that lack a reasonable amount of company information.
3. Provide contact details
Job posts and company profiles must include a means of contacting the team, for example the business email address of a hiring manager.
Employers must use Remote Talent only for its intended purpose: connecting talent with opportunities
4. Provide a simple and genuine method to apply
Job adverts and company profiles must offer a valid and up-to-date application link or mail:to address for candidates who wish to apply.
“How to Apply” should be clear and achievable within a reasonable period.
Breaches include apply links that yield 200 or 404 errors, or redirects to websites that do not provide an application form or instructions.
5. Fulfil Remote Talent compliance standards
Remote Jobs is a global job board. Although hiring compliance varies by jurisdiction, we uphold a strict standard that companies must follow irrespective of location.
Job adverts must not discriminate on the grounds of race, colour, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity and sexual orientation), national origin, age, disability or genetic information.
Roles must comply with EEO, ADA and ADEA guidelines that prohibit discrimination in employment.
Postings must also comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA).
6. Disclose base pay where possible
Some commission-only roles may be prohibited on our platform because they carry a higher risk of worker exploitation and potential FLSA violations.
Roles that are wholly unpaid (for example, unpaid internships) are also prohibited.
Although publishing a salary range is not mandatory, roles must be posted in good faith with a planned base salary.
7. Do not ask for private personal data
Job posts and their application forms must not include requests for information that could infringe an applicant's privacy rights. Examples include bank information, home address, social security number or medical history.
8. Unethical companies are not permitted
We reserve the right to remove jobs from companies that prioritise profit over legality or the welfare of customers, employees and the public. Businesses that operate unethically, deceptively or illegally are not permitted.
For example, we do not permit MLMs, predatory lending, phishing operations, data harvesting or gambling operations to advertise on our site.
Asking candidates for an upfront investment or payment is strictly prohibited.
In summary, companies must act in good faith and respect candidates' time and resources.
9. No unduly restrictive requirements
Except for contract or freelance roles, a position must not require applicants to already own essential equipment to perform the job (for example, a laptop or phone). Other excessively specific criteria that could unfairly exclude qualified candidates may also result in removal.
10. Meet accessibility requirements
Candidates with disabilities must be able to access your advert. This requires following our formatting guidelines and providing an English version of your job description.
11. Maintain a respectful tone
We reserve the right to remove any roles we consider disrespectful, derogatory or defamatory towards candidates. Examples of breaches include job descriptions written in a condescending, sarcastic or callous manner.
