The Republic of Albania (República e Shqipërisë) is a unitary parliamentary constitutional republic in Southeastern Europe, nestled on the Mediterranean and sharing borders with Montenegro, Kosovo, Greece, and North Macedonia.

Over the centuries, Albanian people have resurfaced in European history under the Illyrians, Romans, Venetians, and Ottomans, before achieving independence in 1912. Unfortunately Albanians continued to experience political turmoil through the last century, but the new nation has emerged from this recent past with optimism.

Until 1990, Albania had a socialist economy dominated by agricultural production on state farms. Food was in short supply, and despite significant progress over the last 30 years, many of the country’s population still suffers in poverty.

While Albania may not be able to boast of rocketship economic growth, the country promises you a welcoming population, beautiful antique towns, breathtaking coastline, and a very low cost of living in comparison to other European nations.
