Introducing Remote Expense Cards: company cards for EOR employees

Remote

Hiring globally has become much easier. Managing everyday spend hasn't.

If a member of your team needs to book a flight, take a customer to dinner, or pay for work travel, there's a good chance they're still putting it on a personal card and waiting to be reimbursed.

Reimbursement works, and for many expenses it's still the right approach. But for employees who regularly spend on behalf of the business, asking them to front company expenses isn't a great experience.

That's why we built Remote Expense Cards.

How it works

  • Issue cards to eligible EOR employees, straight from Remote.
  • Choose categories and set limits before anyone spends.
  • Employees pay with the card. Every card transaction is recorded in Remote, and they add a receipt to complete it.
  • Track spend in Remote, alongside payroll and employment.

Remote Expense Cards are available to eligible Remote EOR customers in supported countries.

Why this has been such a hard problem

Traditional corporate card programs were designed for employees hired through a company's own legal entities. EOR employees don't fit neatly into that model, so reimbursement often becomes the default.

The result is a gap that's familiar to anyone managing a distributed workforce, and it looks different depending on where you sit.

For the employee, it means covering business expenses themselves and waiting to be paid back. While colleagues in the head office may have had company cards for years, someone doing the same job from another country may still need to file an expense report for work expenses.

For finance teams, it means managing people in one system and company cards in another, with separate workflows, policies, and access controls. What a team is paid sits in the employment system; what they spend sits in a card tool with no idea which entity they're on or which rules apply. And when someone leaves, their employment ends cleanly, with a final pay run and access pulled, but a card in a separate tool never hears about it and stays live until someone turns it off by hand.

A better option for recurring business spend

Expense reimbursement isn't going away. It's flexible, works across worker types, and remains the right choice in many situations.

Remote Expense Cards simply add another option. For eligible EOR employees who regularly incur business expenses, companies can now issue a company card instead of relying solely on reimbursement. That means employees don't have to front company expenses for card purchases, while finance teams can define spending policies before a purchase is ever made.

Built into Remote EOR

The biggest difference about Remote Expense Cards isn't that they're another corporate card; it's that they're built into the same platform that already manages employment.

Because Remote already knows an employee's entity, location, employment status, and role, card access and spending controls live in the same place as the employment, not in a disconnected card platform. Finance teams can avoid reconciling information across multiple systems just to understand who can spend.

That gives companies a simpler operating model and can help reduce manual work and administrative overhead.

What changes

  • Employees don't have to front company expenses. They pay with a company-issued card instead of waiting for reimbursement through payroll.
  • Spending can be controlled before a purchase happens. Finance teams can define limits and policies up front instead of reviewing exceptions after the fact.
  • Expenses are connected to employment. Card access and expense data live alongside the employee record instead of in a disconnected card platform.

Reimbursement (the default rail)

Remote Expense Cards (the upgrade for eligible EOR spend)

Employee fronts cash and waits for payroll

Nothing out of pocket for card spend; they pay with a company card

Control happens after the transaction, in review

Controls are set before the transaction happens

Spend reconciled from submitted expense reports

Every card transaction is recorded as an expense; the employee adds a receipt to complete it

Card access sits apart from the employment

Access lives in the same system as the employment

Closing the last gap

Remote helps companies employ and pay people around the world. Remote Expense Cards extend that by solving one of the last everyday pain points for EOR employees: paying for work.

It's not a new system to learn or another vendor to manage. It's simply the company card many EOR employees have been waiting for, built directly into the platform that already manages their employment.

Stop reimbursing. Start issuing.
