October product updates

What's new at Remote:
This month, customers can manage employee payments and deductions through Pay items, while Contractor Management and Contractor Management Plus contractors can add VAT to their invoices. These updates make payroll and contractor finance workflows clearer and easier to manage.
Payroll
Manage payments and deductions from one Pay items dashboard
Customers can now use Pay items in Payments & Compensation to create and manage bonuses, commissions, allowances, and deductions. The experience is available to all Global Payroll and PEO customers, and to EOR customers in a first batch of countries. For setup steps, see How to create and manage pay items.
The dashboard brings one-time and recurring pay items into one place. For supported EOR countries, selecting a payment type maps it to the appropriate country pay item, reducing manual selection and helping teams manage payroll inputs more consistently.
Import time and attendance data in bulk or through the Remote API
Customers that track time outside Remote can now send time and attendance data into payroll through a file upload or the Remote API. Both methods use the same setup and rules, and support hours as well as allowances, deductions, and other payments when the relevant legal-entity pay item accepts input. Imported pay items can include shift codes, workday duration, hourly rates, currencies, and multipliers; corrections can be submitted using a negative amount and the original workday.
This reduces manual payroll entry and makes it easier to connect third-party time and attendance systems with Remote. Teams can use bulk pay-item uploads or the Remote API to move structured payroll data into a consistent workflow.
AI
Build custom apps with the Remote Agent
Customers can use the Remote Agent to build custom apps by describing what they need, from dashboards and trackers to calculators and reports. Apps use live Remote data, can be pinned to the sidebar, shared with teammates on the same account type, and exported as PDFs. Read more about the Remote AI agent.
Each shared app respects the user’s permissions, the builder and recipients of an app will only ever see what they have permission to view.
Contractor Management
Add VAT to contractor invoices
Contractor Management and Contractor Management Plus contractors can now add VAT when creating or uploading invoices. VAT is optional per engagement, can appear alongside expense reimbursements, and is included in invoice exports as a net amount, VAT rate, and VAT amount for each line item. VAT is also supported on recurring invoices; it is not supported for time-tracking invoices, company-created invoice schedules, bulk CSV schedule creation, or Contractor of Record.
This gives contractors a way to include the tax details that apply to their services and helps companies review invoice amounts and VAT in one place. See How contractor invoicing works.
Platform
Export public holidays as a CSV
Employers can now export public-holiday data directly from Remote as a CSV. The export is available wherever employers can access the public-holidays table, including across Employer of Record, PEO, Payroll, and Remote HR platform workflows.
This gives teams a faster way to use public-holiday information in workforce planning, payroll preparation, and their own reporting—without copying dates manually. Learn more about time and attendance in Remote.
Catch potential expense issues before submission
Employees hired through Remote’s entities now receive upfront checks when submitting general expenses. Before submission, Remote can flag an unreadable document and check whether the selected expense category and document type meet the relevant taxability requirements.
These checks help employees correct avoidable issues earlier, reducing declined expenses and supporting more accurate documentation and tax treatment. See how to add an expense in Remote.
