Remote employee onboarding

Onboarding employees in a new country need not be complicated. Whether your new starter is in Mumbai, Nairobi, Warsaw, or Toronto, Remote helps the whole global team feel at home. The onboarding experience is often the first genuine insight a remote employee gets into how your organisation operates. If the process is plagued by hiccups and errors, you risk alienating that team member immediately. Adopt remote onboarding practice that fosters a sense of belonging and reflects the reputation you have worked hard to build. When a new hire first joins Remote they receive a warm welcome and clear guidance through every step. An HR manager is assigned for messaging at any time, helping you build a stronger connection. Remote is designed for the user, with key payroll, compensation and benefits documentation easy to access during onboarding. Automated alert emails inform the remote employee when action is required, and Remote customer support is available 24/7 should you or your new employee need assistance.

Remote contractor onboarding

If your team is not yet ready to hire full-time international staff, begin with contractors to trial the experience. Even though these workers aren’t permanent, there are pitfalls you must avoid. You still need to comply with local employment laws and create secure, localised contracts. Remote streamlines the contractor onboarding process so it is quick, simple and cost-effective. As with full-time hires, contractors receive contracts that comply with local labour and taxation law. Contractors also receive the same guidance and expert customer support, plus a single platform to submit invoices and receive payments in the currency of their choice. With automated contracts, customisable information fields and monitoring for misclassification, you can onboard global contractors rapidly and with lasting security.

Frequently asked questions

Depending on where you recruit, employee onboarding software lets you bring new hires into your organisation in full compliance with relevant employment legislation. For local hires this is generally a simple (or at least familiar) process for most firms. New starters usually sign an employment contract and upload necessary documents, all managed through the employer's onboarding software. Onboarding software will often remain in use after the employee begins work, since most onboarding tools are part of a broader employment software suite.

The process becomes more complex when organisations try to onboard remote staff in countries where they have no legal entity. Lack of familiarity with local laws and customs can delay onboarding and make it harder to remain compliant. In such situations, employers commonly rely on an employer of record, or EOR, to onboard new workers. An EOR enables businesses to employ people in other countries by acting as the local employer while managing functions such as payroll, benefits, tax withholding, compliance, and stock options.
