Employment termination in Tunisia
Termination process
Employers can dismiss employees by providing notice, although it’s not required if an employee is being dismissed with immediate effect. Termination for disciplinary grounds requires the employee to be brought before a disciplinary board prior to termination.
Notice period
The notice period is a minimum of one month, except if a longer period is specified by the applicable collective agreement.
Severance pay
Severance pay is limited to one day’s pay for each month of employment, up to three months’ pay. A dismissed employee must be given payment in lieu of any unused leave entitlement, in addition to their base severance pay.
Workers who’re dismissed for misconduct are not entitled to any severance or payments in lieu of unused leave.
Probation periods
The probation period in Tunisia is limited to six months for general (blue collar) staff, nine months for supervisors, and one year for executives.
