This is an exciting time to join Remote and make a personal difference in the global employment space as a Data Protection Specialist, joining our Legal & Compliance team, reporting to our Associate General Counsel and working with our Data Protection Team.

Remote has a global footprint worldwide and we are reinforcing our Legal Team in the Data Protection area.

As a Data Protection Specialist you will assess and mitigate risks in a constantly changing area such as data protection, adapting our operational processes to changes in data protection laws, providing input and advice to your colleagues on how to handle data and continuously improving our compliance processes

In this role you will work directly with all functional areas, ensuring compliance across the organisation and advising all colleagues involved in data processing.

What you bring

  • Excellent knowledge of the the EU General Data Protection Regulation and proven experience of advising organisations on compliance.
  • Experience in the creation and management of data protection policies and procedures.
  • Experience in managing and responding to Data Subject requests and incident management.
  • Ability to:
    • make sound judgements regarding data protection risks
    • interpret legislation and develop subject specific guidance/advice
    • conduct research, analyse results and practically apply to real life scenarios
    • distil complex matters and communicate clearly to non-subject matter experts
    • identify areas and processes that can be improved through innovation or technology
  • Proactive, self-starter with strong communication and interpersonal skills, ideally a people person skilled at building and maintaining relationships both internally and externally as well as managing key stakeholders
  • Demonstrable experience in the application and implementation of privacy by design and by default, in conducting data protection impact assessments and in assessing security incidents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to plan, organise and prioritise activities to efficiently meet business objective
  • Open minded and innovative thinker willing to use technology to improve efficiency and process
  • Comfortable reviewing and responding to data subject requests (including deletion and access requests)
  • Verbal and written fluency in the English language
  • It's not required to have experience working remotely, but it’s considered a plus.
  • Exposure to the PIPEDA, California Consumer Privacy Act, the Brazilian General Data Protection Law, the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act and other global data protection legislation is considered a strong plus.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Data Protection Team with their day-to-day responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with all the other teams at Remote to ensure that our contractual and regulatory requirements are being followed and that our processes are being effectively improved.
  • Draft, review and maintain policies and procedures on data protection compliance.
  • Perform assessments (privacy impact, legitimate interests, vendors, etc.) and improve our assessment processes.
  • Identifying and leveraging technology to streamline processes and efficiency.
  • Respond to ad-hoc queries on data protection matters by internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assisting with incident management processes.
  • Identify privacy risks and help mitigate those risks.
  • Produce training on data protection matters for all teams at Remote.
  • Assist with Remote’s data protection champions programme.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.

Therefore, all compensation changes associated with an internal move will be reviewed by the Total Rewards & People Enablement team on a case by case basis.

The annual salary range for this full-time position is
$44,050$99,100 USD
