To ensure benefit equality, any benefits offered will apply to all team members in the country, providing consistent coverage and support across the team.

Health Benefits

Offering health insurance in this country is not mandatory, but providing these additional health benefits can greatly enhance the healthcare experience for employees by enabling access to a wider range of providers and specialists, as well as significantly reducing wait times.

In Spain, Remote offers both local and international coverage options to ensure that clients hiring in the country have the flexibility and coverage needed to provide the best possible care for employees. The international plans can be used both globally (excluding the US) and locally, ensuring comprehensive coverage wherever employees are, while the local plans only cover services locally but enjoy the benefits of a more extensive local network and specialized care.

When onboarding a new hire, Remote provides several plan options, including the International Standard plan, the International Premium plan, the Local Standard plan, and the Local Premium plan. The International Standard plan covers healthcare globally, while the International Premium plan includes health, dental, and vision coverages globally. The Local Standard plan covers essential health services including hospitalization, surgery, intensive care, specific psychiatric admission, rehabilitation, oncology treatment, and emergency dental care. The Local Premium plan includes everything in the Local Standard plan, plus additional benefits such as vision coverage, expanded dental benefits, and 80% reimbursement for out-of-network services.

Life Insurance

Offering life insurance is not mandatory in this country, but providing these additional benefits can significantly enhance the financial security and peace of mind for employees.

The Global Life Insurance offering provides flexible coverage levels ranging from $50,000 to $600,000 , tailored to meet the diverse needs and budgets of the company and its employees. This benefit includes two options:

The Basic Offering provides Life Insurance coverage. In the unfortunate event of an employee’s demise, their beneficiary will receive a payout equivalent to up to 6 times the employee’s annual salary. However, this compensation is capped at a maximum of the selected cover limit. This means that the payout will not exceed the cover limit applicable, regardless of the employee’s salary.

The Comprehensive Offering at Remote combines Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), and Permanent Disability (PD) coverage. In cases of accidental death, dismemberment, or a permanent disability, the compensation is equivalent to up to 5 times the employee’s annual salary, subject to a predetermined limit. This compensation is capped at a maximum cover limit provided by Remote. The payout will not exceed the applicable cover limit, regardless of the employee’s salary.

It is essential to be aware that in certain countries, insurance premium taxes may be applicable. This means taxes may be due to the company for the monthly premiums paid towards the life insurance coverage for employees. Additionally, life insurance benefits may be categorized as ‘Benefits in Kind’ (BIK). This categorization means that the monthly premiums paid for the life insurance coverage might be counted as part of the employee’s taxable income according to the local tax laws.

When life insurance benefits are offered , they must be provided equally to all employees in the respective country.

  • Provides financial protection and security for beneficiaries after the death of an insured team member.

Cover Level: Options ranging from $50,000 to $600,000

  • Provides financial protection and security for beneficiaries after the death of an insured team member.

  • In the unfortunate event of a team member’s demise, beneficiary compensation cannot exceed 6 times the team member’s annual pay or the chosen cover level (whichever is lower).

Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D):

  • Offers financial protection to beneficiaries in the unfortunate events of an insured team member's accidental death or dismemberment.

  • Compensation cannot exceed 5 times the team member's annual pay or the chosen cover level (whichever is lower). The exact payout varies depending on the type of injury sustained, as specified in the Accidental Dismemberment Table.

Permanent Disability

  • Designed to offer financial support to insured team members who suffer from either permanent and total or permanent and partial disabilities as a result of an accident or illness.

  • Compensation cannot exceed 5 times the team member's annual pay or the chosen cover level (whichever is lower). The insurance provider assesses the extent of the permanent disability to determine the final compensation:

    • Disabilities below 33.33%: No compensation

    • Disabilities between 33.33% and 66.67%: Compensation calculated as a percentage of the capped amount

    • Permanent disabilities exceeding 66.67%: Full capped compensation amount

For detailed examples of how the compensation is calculated for Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), and Permanent Disability, refer to the help article for details

Retirement & Pension

Remote offers an optional Retirement plan, designed as a Unit Linked plan to provide a flexible retirement savings solution. This is different from a traditional pension plan and provides employees with the opportunity to invest in various funds.

Remote provides five contribution levels, with company contributions of up to 8% and employee contributions of up to 4%. Employees also have the option to make additional voluntary contributions, allowing them to tailor their plan to meet individual financial objectives. Please note, once a Retirement benefit is offered, it cannot be revoked due to acquired rights.

When retirement benefits are offered, they must be provided equally to all employees in the respective country.

All employees are automatically enrolled in the Cobee platform, which is mandatory for the Basic Retirement Plan, meal and nursery services. This means that customers cannot opt out of the Cobee benefit or waive its associated cost.

Basic

The Basic Tier allows employees to voluntarily contribute to their retirement plan without any company match.

Standard

The Standard Tier includes a 2% company contribution and a 1% employee contribution, totaling 3%.

Plus

The Plus Tier features a 4% company contribution and a 2% employee contribution, resulting in a 6% total contribution.

Premium

The Premium Tier offers a 6% company contribution and a 3% employee contribution, leading to a 9% total contribution.

Premium

The Platinum Tier maximises retirement savings with an 8% company contribution and a 4% employee contribution, resulting in a 12% total contribution.

Tax Savings Benefit

Remote offers valuable tax-saving benefits for employees in Spain, including meal vouchers and kindergarten benefits. These benefits are part of a voluntary pay sacrifice scheme, meaning they are fully paid for by employees and do not incur additional costs for employers.
Remote offers valuable tax-saving benefits for employees in Spain, including meal vouchers and kindergarten benefits. These benefits are part of a voluntary pay sacrifice scheme, meaning they are fully paid for by employees and do not incur additional costs for the company.

Meal Vouchers

Meal vouchers offer a tax-efficient way for employees to save on meals during the working day. This benefit allows for income tax-exempt spending at various food outlets, including restaurants, cafes, bars, and online food delivery services like Just Eat and Glovo. Note that supermarkets, airports, and hotels are not eligible.

Each employee will receive a Meal Card. Participation in this benefit is voluntary, and if an employee does not use their Meal Card allowance, nothing will be deducted from their pay.

The amount spent on the Meal Card, up to specified limits, will be deducted from the employee’s gross pay as a pay sacrifice, making it exempt from income tax. Starting January 2024, the income tax exemption limits are €11 per day, €220 per month, and €2,420 per year. Employees receive the monthly limit (€220) on their Meal Card on the 2nd of each month. The card is limited to €220 per month for 11 months (€2,420 annually). If the annual limit is reached before December, the card will not be usable in December. Only the amount actually spent will be deducted from the paycheck.

Kindergarten

The kindergarten benefit is available for children between 0 and 3 years old attending the first cycle of early childhood education. It is 100% exempt from personal income tax (IRPF), potentially saving up to 3 months of nursery expenses. There is no monthly or annual limit for the national system, but there is a limit of €1,000 for Navarre and foral territories. The monthly amount allocated to this benefit is deducted through payroll.

This benefit covers the cost of nursery school and can be redeemed at over 6,000 nursery schools across Spain. The benefit applies only to state-approved nursery schools.
