In Cameroon, the employer must provide a reason for termination that fits into one of the following categories:
gross misconduct (known as a summary dismissal)
constructive dismissal/resignation (dismissal or resignation forced by the conduct of either party)
termination of contracts of unspecified duration by the will of either party (known as mutual termination)
Lay off resulting from accidents, force majeure, or an unfavourable economic situation
Notice period
Indefinite-term contracts can be terminated at will with prior notice and one week off provided for employees to start exploring new opportunities.
Severance pay
Severance packages are defined by the Cameroonian Labour Minister and can vary, depending on industry and employee seniority.
Probation periods
Probation periods are defined in employment contracts and can last from six to eight months for managerial staff.
