Paid time off

Annual leave in Puerto Rico depends on an employee’s tenure, and it works out as follows: - Up to one year of employment: six days of annual leave - 1 - 5 years of employment: nine days annual leave - 5 - 15 years of employment: 12 days of annual leave - 15+ years of employment: 15 days of annual leave Annual time off also only applies to non-exempt employees.

Sick leave

Workers are entitled to at least one sick day off every month, or roughly 12 days off per year.

Maternity leave

Maternity leave lasts for eight weeks, split four weeks before and after delivery, although expectant mothers can keep working until a week before delivery — provided they have medical approval. Maternity leave can be extended for another 12 (unpaid) weeks in case of miscarriage, or pregnancy-related complication. Adoptive mothers are entitled to the same length of maternity leave provided the adopted child is below the age of six.
