Employment termination in Dominica
Termination process
Employee contracts can either be terminated at will or with justification, provided the appropriate notice period is provided.
Notice period
Employees who’re dismissed on justified grounds are entitled to only 48 hours of notice before being let go. On the other hand, employees who’re terminated at will are entitled to notice periods depending on their seniority:
Up to three months of employment: seven days’ notice
Six months: 14 days’ notice
One year: 28 days’ notice
Severance pay
Employees are entitled to severance packages depending on their tenure with an employer’s organization.
3 – 6 months: 6 days’ pay
6 – 12 months: 13 days’ pay
1 – 5 years: 21 days pay for every year worked
5+ years: 23 days’ pay for every year worked
Probation periods
Probation periods can last up to three months.
